Steinplatte Bike & Hike

Classic variant with ascent via the Winklmoos, further on foot to the summit of the Steinplatte, a ski mountain with a tremendous view of the Loferer Steinberge.

We ride about 6 km along the wonderful Chiemgau cycle path along the Lofer river to Seegatterl. This route is perfect for a relaxed break-in. At Seegatterl we keep straight ahead, drive past the toll station on the left and follow the signs to Winklmoos. It's almost 400 meters in altitude from Seegatterl to the Winklmoosalm, the famous alpine pasture area of Reit im Winkl.

On the Winklmoos, we ride past the Sonnenalm and Almstüberl inns before continuing on the forest road, keeping to the right in the direction of Möseralm. At the so-called Tanzanger we turn right, the forest road turns almost red and we go up through the forest. After about 150 meters in altitude, we come to the main ski run between the Steinplatte and Winklmoos ski areas. The path is clear from here, it always goes up...to the Kammerköhr.

After the Triassic Park, we continue hiking on the marked circular path to the Steinplatte summit, as this path is closed to bikers. Here you can enjoy the view of the Loferer Steinberge, the Großvenediger, the Kitzbühel Alps, the Wilder and Zahmer Kaiser and many other peaks that appear.

Arriving back at the Kammerköhr we take the same route back to the Winklmoos. Here most people decide to ride down the paved toll road (see GPS data), but you should always expect oncoming traffic and drive accordingly defensively. The forest road to Reit im Winkl allows for leisurely rolling and so we reach our starting point again.

Orientation text: This tour runs in the border area of Tyrol and is signposted by the tourism associations responsible there. After crossing the border, use the signs to orientate yourself. Furthermore, we recommend a navigation device (mobile phone, GPX devices) for every tour and careful planning before the start!
