Ski touring the mountains around Reit im Winkl
The growing popularity of ski tours also brings more and more guests with backcountry skis to the Chiemgau Alps. Ski mountaineering has a long tradition in Reit im Winkl, as it was normal before the lifts were built in the Winklmoos-Alm, Steinplatte or Benzeck ski areas.
The most popular mountains for backcountry skiing in Reit im Winkl include Dürrnbachhorn, Sonntagshorn, Fellhorn and the nearby Walmberg for short after-work tours. The classic among the Reit im Winkler ski tours, however, is “Oben-Ummi”, a long tour across Hemmersuppenalm and Winklmoos-Alm with an altitude gain of 1,350 meters.
